Fundación Málaga was set up as a private institution with a clear vocation of rendering a public service to the city of Málaga and its province as well as to those people born or living here.

Its main aim is the developing of the heritage, the culture, the research and the society by means of programmes carried out in the province of Málaga or even out of it in case of programs intended to promote Málaga and its people.

The assets of Fundación Málaga come from the contributions made by its patrons, collaborators and friends and, in the return of the activities in which the foundation takes part.
The patronage to Fundación Málaga is made up of the following institutions and companies: Excmo. Ayuntamiento de Málaga, Excma. Diputación Provincial de Málaga, Mayoral Moda Infantil S.A.U., Construcciones Vera S.A., Grupo Empresarial Sando S.L., Miguel y Rodríguez S.L. (Myramar), Financiera y Minera S.A. (FYM), and Unicaja.
Moreover, Fundación Málaga has the collaboration of Edipsa, FCC Construcción S.A., Grupo Novasoft, Netobrill S.A., Seur, Obras y Restauraciones Picasso (ORP), Consultores para Suministros a Servicios Hospitalarios (CSSH), Excma. Junta de Andalucía, San Miguel, Pedro López e Hijos, Orona, Asesores y Abogados Tributarios Garrigues, Museo del Patrimonio Municipal, McDonalds Plaza de la Marina, Fundación Escultor Berrocal, Vídeo Sur TV and Astilleros Nereo.
Fundación Málaga has been declared of general interest by an decree of the Consejería de Cultura (cultural department) of the Junta de Andalucía issued the 25th November 2002 and it is registered in the Registro de Fundaciones Privadas de Carácter Cultural ( a register of private foundations for cultural purposes) as A-100 MA-10, under the Act 30/94 about foundations (nowadays known as Act 50/02).
